We have in today’s society the prefix of “smiling money” or the idea that “being rich you have to work and play hard” to get what you want.

My first experience of earning money came in working with the local farmer delivering the milk to the houses in the village where I lived. I was 13 years at the time. They were a family that always created opportunities each day, from selling, producing and optimizing the business of their farm.
For me, it was to save as much as I could for one particular year, to buy myself my own racing bike, for at the time my father had lost his business and my mother was looking for any jobs she could to help support the family. I enjoyed my work as milk lad, it was only on Saturday mornings, and yet I was always fulfilled that I helped people who could not get out to but their milk from the local Co-Op.

I remember speaking to the farmer, one day and he mentioned this to me:
“In the community, a job well done is worth more than the money you earn from doing it.”
It is only in the past few years that I have seen that to be true, not only morally but in that the care you put into your work is the difference, that makes the difference between short-term financial gain and long-term sustainable success. In my life, at 13 years old I instinctively knew something that it’s taken me many decades to rediscover at 50 years old.
