Founder at Think Big with Geoffrey Kent

Even though I started my first entrepreneurial venture when I was 12 years old, I’ve never quite understood what led me down the entrepreneurial career path (I’ve had a very successful corporate career, working in the past for Xerox, AT&T, and Deloitte Consulting, while also serving on the boards of directors of the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation and the Fox Chase Cancer Center Foundation).

I’m the youngest of 4 children in a military family. Both of my parents earned degrees in engineering from Tuskegee Institute in 1953, and my father retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel in 1975. While my mother’s father owned his taxicab company in Virginia when I was growing up, moving every 2-3 years (to 4 continents and 10 of the 50 states) didn’t give me an opportunity to spend much time around extended family (so I grew up thinking I had no entrepreneurial role models). While my parents stressed the importance of education (I earned an MBA in entrepreneurial, multinational, and arts management from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a BBA in marketing from the University of Oklahoma), they more importantly encouraged and supported all of my eccentricities (math was my favorite subject; and I’ve always been fascinated by the process of making money, but have never placed any value on material possessions).

I’ve started 15-20 entrepreneurial ventures over the course of my professional career, and my parents have supported me in each of these ventures as if they had been their own. Their advice has consistently been, “follow your heart, give 150% in everything you do, and see every decision you make to its’ natural conclusion” (thus instilling in me the independence of thought, internal drive, and persistence that have led to my entrepreneurial success).
